Euro NymphsCode Cracker - PMD Nymph
A simplified PMD nymph pattern designed by Cheech that eliminates the complexity of traditional split-case mayfly imitations. The foam wing case provides excellent visibility and creates a realistic segmented appearance without the fussy multi-step process. Quick to tie and highly effective during PMD hatches.

Overview
Created by Cheech in August 2021 as a simplified alternative to traditional split-case PMD nymphs. The pattern eliminates multiple tying steps while maintaining effectiveness, making it ideal for quickly stocking your box before PMD season. The foam wing case can be tied in various colors (yellow, tan, olive) to match different mayfly species and local conditions. The UV resin creates a durable, glossy finish that adds realism and longevity.

Fishing Tips
Season
Most effective during late spring and summer Pale Morning Dun hatches, typically late May through August. PMD hatches usually occur during warmer parts of the day, between 10 AM and 2 PM. Best fished when water temperatures reach 55-65°F and trout are actively feeding on emerging nymphs.
Presentation
Fish using euro nymphing techniques with a tight line for maximum contact. Cast upstream at a 45-degree angle and lead the fly through the drift, maintaining constant tension to detect subtle takes. The tungsten bead gets the fly down quickly to the feeding zone. In pocket water, use short-line nymphing techniques.
When to Use
Best during PMD hatches when trout are keyed in on mayfly nymphs in the drift. Effective before, during, and after visible surface activity. Works well as a searching pattern in runs and riffles known to hold PMDs. Particularly productive on overcast days or during cloudy conditions when nymphal activity increases.
Water Type
Designed for freestone streams and tailwaters with moderate to fast currents. Particularly effective in riffles, runs, and pocket water where PMDs are present. Works well in spring creeks and technical water where selective trout require realistic presentations. The jig hook design reduces snags in rocky substrate.
Rigging Suggestions
Fish on 10-12 foot leader with 5X-6X fluorocarbon tippet for technical presentations. Use as a point fly in euro nymphing rigs with a lighter pattern as dropper above. Can also be fished under a small indicator in traditional nymphing setups. Position 12-18 inches above bottom structure for optimal drift.
Visibility & Floatation
The 2.8mm tungsten bead provides fast sink rate, reaching depths of 2-3 feet quickly in moderate current. The yellow foam wing case offers excellent visibility to both fish and angler in stained water. The slim jig hook profile cuts through current efficiently and positions the hook point upward to reduce snags. The UV resin coating adds subtle flash that attracts attention without spooking wary trout.
