![]() Fly Tier: Dr. Jeffery R. Balison |
|
Tying Instruction : 1. Tie eyes in front ¼ of hook, and lock with CA glue 2. Tie 10 - 15 strands pink bucktail behind eyes to extend about 1 shank length beyond bend 3. Tie in white craft fur over and same length or slightly longer, than bucktail. Steps 2 and 3 are both tied behind the eyes. Cover shank with pink FWN 4. Tie in white craft fur at front of fly and carry fur over eyes, locking it in place behind the eyes. Length slightly shorter than tail will give nice body taper 5. Invert hook, tie in Crystal flash to full length of wing 6. Add wing of tan craft fur 7. Lacquer nose with Hard-as-Nails Note : Although epoxy heads are more attractive, two coats of Hard as Nails seem to be just as durable and quicker to apply. Sometimes with larger hair or when tying in a feather over a short distance to make a small, neat head, it is hard to keep the thread from slipping off the taper and loosening towards the eye of the hook. If that is happening, go back to where the thread is tight, add a drop of CA glue, wait briefly, and then tie in the abrupt taper. The glue will lock in the thread to close adjoining wraps, allowing a small and neater head. |
