![]() Fly Tier: Richard H. Crafts |
|
Tying Instruction : 1) Tie on eyes on top of hook 1/3 hook shank from eye of hook. Use an X wrap to secure the eyes. 2) Tie on white big fly fiber in front of lead eyes and wrap with open wrap back to hook bend. 3) Now make open wraps back to in front of hook eye. The body should look like an X wrap style now. 4) Flip the hook over and tie in 4-6 stands of pearl crystal flash. 5) Tie on chartreuse big fly fiber over the crystal flash. 6) Tie on olive big fly fiber over the chartreuse big fly fiber. 7) Wrap a smooth head and whip finish. You can finish the head with Hard as Nails if desired. Note : The "SBASS" is a clouser that allows the fly to be very long 6-10" without the normal wind resistance of other big flys. The problem is that I picked up the material at Orvis`s sale room, so they are probably discontinuing this"Big Fly Fiber". I am a believer that bass can see color, and since my favorite bucktail is chartrueuse and white with olive over the chartruese, This very very sparse fly has turn into my nuber two productive fly in the day time.[has been very good in the 3-31/2" length also] The material does not wrap around the shank very often, and if you can hunt some of this material down, you will be very happy even though your fellow tyers will scoff at it. |
