Tying Instruction : 1) Tie on thread near bend of hook. 2) Tie on 3 pheasant tail fibers as a tail. 3) Tie on 3-4 pheasant tail fibers by the tip and wind thread to mid shank. 4) Twist pheasant tail fibers into a rope and wrap a thin abdomen. 5) Tie on pheasant tail for wingcase. 6) Make a thread loop about 2 inches long at the base of the wing case. 7) Dub a thorax slightly fatter than the abdomen. 8) Fold a small piece of very thin foam in half and cut very small wings (thin foam is used as coffee cup holders in movie theaters, it's a separate piece of foam that is wrapped around the cup so your fingers won’t get burned). 9) Slide the foam wings down the thread loop (just like on the impression dun) and tie off at hook eye. 10) Pull pheasant tail wing case around either side of foam wings and tie off. 11) Whip finish the head. Note : Some of the materials and hooks used by Richardt may not be available in the USA, but his techniques and patterns will be very useful. Try using the patterns as a guide rather than a formula recipe. |
