3) Wrap thread back to bend of hook. Tie on hackle fibers for a very short tail. Wrap over top of hackle fibers to wing base creating smooth tapered under body.
4) Dub a loose body of hair's ear to the base of wing.
5) Tie in both hackles separately, shiny side of each hackle facing in opposite directions.
6) Wrap hackles forward one at a time. 1-2 wraps behind the wing and 2-4 wraps in front of the wing for each hackle.
7) Whip finish head.
8) Cut the base of the hackle even with the hook point.

Note :

I was born in the Pacific Northwest into a large, close-knit family of wiseasses. My Uncle David (who bears a remarkable semblance to my friend Cooper, the purveyor of this site) started me fishing at five or six, and I became a fly tyer after seeing an Orvis catalog at the neighbors around the

age of nine. I spent more time fishing than studying in college, and have paid for it ever since by pursuing a career in art.
