Thorax : Dryfly Dubbing Brown And Olive Mixed

Tying Instruction :

1) Fold a piece of shimakazi wing over a #14 Dry fly hook. Cut the wing material at an angle between the hook of the eye and hook point, now cut around the hook bend. This will give you a tent shaped wing, which when unfolded will look like a long heart shape.
2) Place your hook in a vice and tie on your thread near mid shank.
3) Dub a cigar shaped body for 2/3 of the shank.
4) Tie the tent wing on over the top of the hook.
5) Tie on a hackle at the base of the body.
6) Tie on a small piece of Dan's hopper foam as an upright post.
7) Dub the remainder of the hook shank.
8) Wrap the hackle parachute style around the foam post and tie off hackle and whip finish head.
9) Cut foam post off down to hackle and place a small drop of supper glue on the hackle and post.

Note :

Some of the materials and hooks used by Richardt may not be available in the USA, but his techniques and patterns will be very useful. Try using the patterns as a guide rather than a formula recipe.

ABOUT THE FLY TIER
E-mail : richardt@esenet.dk

Richardt Jensen and his son Dennis live in Esbger Denmark. They are both avid fly tiers and have sent me not only these beautiful flies but also pamphlets they use for their fly tying classes. Unfortunately the pamphlets aren’t in English and I don’t know how to get them translated. I have done the best I can with the instructions, luckily Richardt sent along some sketches which do an excellent job of illustrating the tying steps.
